ABOUT US
The church is called to participate in God's activity in the world
through its life for others by
a) healing and reconciling and binding up wounds
b) ministering to the needs of the poor, sick, lonely and the
powerless
c) engaging itself in the struggle to free people from sin,
fear, oppression, hunger and
injustice
d) giving itself and its substance to the service of those
who suffer
e) sharing with Christ in the establishing of his just,
peaceful and loving rule in the
world.
THE CHURCH IS CALLED TO UNDERTAKE THIS MISSION EVEN AT THE RISK
OF LOSING ITS LIFE, TRUSTING IN GOD ALONE AS THE AUTHOR AND GIVER OF
LIFE, SHARING THE GOSPEL, AND DOING THOSE DEEDS IN THE WORLD THAT POINT
BEYOND THEMSELVES TO THE NEW REALITY IN CHRIST.
We exist for the good of others. We strive to be a friendly and
open-minded congregation which comes together weekly to joyfully
celebrate life. We are a community of diversity: women, men and
children of all ages, races and conditions. Our inclusiveness is a
visible sign of the new humanity in Christ!
WE BELIEVE THAT THE WORLD CAN CHANGE, THAT PEACE AND WHOLENESS
CAN COME, AND THAT WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF GOD AND THE BROTHERS AND SISTERS
OF JESUS.
BASIC PRESBYTERIAN BELIEFS
Mortals' chief end is to glorify God
and enjoy God forever (adapted Westminster catechism).
Presbyterians insist that God
alone is Lord of conscience, and
therefore welcome diversity and open inquiry. Doctrine
for us is more a matter of emphasis
rather than exclusion of different points of view.
With all Christians we worship the
Triune God. With other Protestants we place special emphasis on
Scripture and God's grace through the gift of faith in Jesus
Christ. As Reformed Christians
we also stress God's sovereignty
as Creator and Redeemer of all.
This theme prompts us to:
-
human responsibility -
the election of God's people for
service, not just for salvation
-
a proper stewardship of all the
gifts of creation which celebrates
a simplicity and shuns
ostentation
-
a recognition of the human tendency
toward idolatry and tyranny - the insistence that
ultimate
allegiance belongs to God alone
-
a call to work for the
transformation of society in
obedience to Scripture and the model of Christ
